We built Freename because naming takes too long.
Freename began with a specific frustration: great startup names take weeks to find and still feel like guesswork. We set out to make naming focused and reliable.
Freename's start
Before co-founding Freename, Davide worked in product design and early-stage company building. He saw the same bottleneck repeatedly: founders cycled through name ideas in forums, spreadsheets, and registrar search boxes, then found each option taken, trademarked, or awkward to say aloud.
In early 2025, Davide partnered with Thomas, whose background was in NLP and text-generation tooling, to test whether a disciplined scoring model could cut the cycle to an hour. Sara joined for growth and editorial. They shipped the first version later that year.
Freename is headquartered in Lugano, Switzerland. We stay small on purpose. Every feature addresses a specific pain point founders face, not a roadmap checkbox.
Our team
Background in product design and early-stage company building. Focused on naming, brand identity, and domain strategy before co-founding Freename in 2025.
Background in NLP and text-generation tooling, focused on domain infrastructure. Built Freename's scoring engine and availability architecture, with attention to model precision and generation latency.
Background in growth and content strategy for creator and builder tools, including brand team work at an early-stage product company. Handles content, partnerships, and the Ideas editorial voice.
Work method
Brandable names trade clarity for memorability. Short domains cost more. We show these trade-offs in the product instead of pretending every answer is perfect.
Naming should take days, not months. Every Freename design choice aims to shorten the path from brief to shortlist without cutting the thinking that matters.
We keep the feature set deliberately narrow. Each tool handles edge cases well rather than covering the widest surface area in the shallowest way.
